ThePlayStation 5 Proset the internet on fire when it was revealed in September 2024, but not for all the right reasons. Sony’s mid-generation refresh has been the subject of criticism from many corners of the gaming community, in large part because of its hefty price tag. It costs a whopping $700 at retail, which is $200 more than the base PS5. To put that into perspective, the PS4 Pro launched at $400 in 2016, roughly the same price that the original PS4 was sold at. Taking that into account, thePlayStation 5 Prois, without a doubt, one of the most expensive Sony consoles ever released, and its lack of a built-in disc drive or vertical stand makes its price harder to swallow.

What the PS5 Pro lacks in affordability, it at least makes up for in raw technical power. This new PlayStation console has some significant enhancements under the hood and is considerably more powerful than the current PS5 model. It includes an upgraded GPU, a 2TB SSD, and an integrated AI-upscaling technology called PSSR. The PS5 Pro also comes with a new, optional feature thatimproves the image quality of select PS4 games. Sony has yet to reveal what last-generation titles will benefit from this setting, but ifBloodborneis included among them, then this PS5 Pro feature may give fans the closest thing they will ever get to a proper remaster of the legendary Soulslike.

Bloodborne on PS5 Pro Could Be the Closest Thing Fans Will Get to a Remaster of the Game

Bloodborne is One of the Few PS4-Era Games That Really Needs a Remaster

Many gamers will likely argue that games from the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One generation do not need remasters. The majority of them still hold up incredibly well, and wouldn’t feel dated if they were released in 2024.Bloodborne, however, is not one of these games. FromSoftware’s 2015 action RPG is universally beloved bySoulsfans, but since it’sexclusive to the PS4and has yet to receive a proper PS5 or PC port, the game hasn’t aged very well from a technical standpoint. On PlayStation 5,Bloodborneruns at a measly 1080p resolution and is capped at 30 FPS, which is unacceptable for many by modern video game standards.

Bloodborne Will Apparently Receive an Image Quality Enhancement on PS5 Pro

While Bloodborne won’t have a frame rate boost on PS5 Pro, it will seemingly receive an image quality enhancement on the console.A user on ResetErawho got their hands on the PS5 Pro early posted a side-by-side comparison ofBloodbornerunning on Sony’s mid-gen refresh with and without this new feature enabled. Judging from this screenshot, it seems likeFromSoftware’s gothic Soulslikewill look slightly better on the new console.Bloodborneon PS5 Pro will apparently have clearer visuals and a somewhat sharper resolution compared to its PS4 counterpart.

Admittedly, the lack of any major enhancements forBloodborneon PS5 Pro other than a slight upres will likely disappoint some, but this is nonetheless an improvement worth highlighting. It is, after all, the most PlayStation has done with the acclaimed Soulslike in the last 5 years. For whatever reason, Sony has refused to give this game a modern touch-up, despite immense demand from fans. The company has releasedremasters ofHorizon Zero Dawn,Marvel’s Spider-Man(2018),Ghost of Tsushima, and other PS4 games, but it has yet to do anything withBloodborne, even though it’s the one game that’s most in need of a re-release.

A Bloodborne Remaster May Be Unlikely, But Its Enhanced PS5 Pro Version is the Next Best Thing

The chances ofaBloodbornePS5 remasterare probably pretty slim at this point, and any potential rumors of a remake of the game for the PS6 are just baseless claims for the time being. At the very least, however,Bloodborne’s enhancedPlayStation 5 Proversion will give players a solid reason to return to the game, which they may not get again for the foreseeable future.
