Pokemon Legends: Z-Arecently got a new trailer with the Pokemon Presents direct, and it finally addressed the elephant in the room of the additional Mega Evolutions coming with the title. Despite a lengthy and detailed trailer that went over various new features and activities and how they are incorporated into the gameplay loop, only Mega Dragonite was revealed. This is still big news for fans of Dragonite and Mega Evolutions in general, andPokemon Legends: Z-Amost likely has more surprises in store for fans. And yet, the official announcements on Pokemon Presents day also confirm Mega Starmie and Mega Scrafty.
There have been multiple leaks leading up to the newest trailer, with several occurring between last year and early 2025. Multiple leaks report thatPokemon Legends: Z-Awill have 26 new Mega Evolutions total, which is nothing to scoff at when the overall series has 48, and this number could have even been 27 if not for the fact that Mega Zeraora was apparently scrapped. There are various critters in the list of new Mega Evolutions in the game, including Starmie and Scrafty, and the addition of NPCs Lida and Naveen basicallyconfirms Mega Starmie and Mega Scraftyare very much real.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A Basically Confirms Mega Evolutions for Starmie and Scrafty
TheofficialPokemon Legends: Z-Awebsitehas a section dedicated to the characters fromTeam MZ inPLZA, which comprises either Urbain or Taunie, based on the selection of player character, and then two other members - Lida and Naveen. Lida is a dance school student, and Naveen is a wannabe fashion designer, which are actually significant details. Lida’s partner Pokemon is Staryu, and Naveen’s partner Pokemon is Scraggy. According to the leaks, Mega Starmie has long legs, which could match the fact that Lida is a dancer, and Mega Scrafty gets new white clothes, which would make sense with a trainer who is a fashion designer.
SinceMega Dragoniteconfirmed all 26 Mega Evolutions inPokemon Legends: Z-Aby matching its description perfectly, it’s only natural to assume that the fact that Lida’s partner is Staryu and Naveen’s partner is Scraggy is no coincidence. Mega Starmie and Mega Scrafty are both part of the original leak that included Mega Dragonite, and each critter in the list has a description from the insider who played the game. Mega Dragonite was described as having angel-like wings on its head, shoulders, and heels, and also an orb on its tail. That is exactly how Mega Dragonite looks in the game, confirming that Mega Starmie and Mega Scrafty are real.
On top of that, having two major NPCs use Staryu and Scraggy as their starter Pokemon further confirms this, especially when considering that both Lida and Naveen have Mega Key Stones built into their bracelets, much like the player character and both Urbain and Taunie. As such, it’s implied that players will either face Lida and Naveen in battle or battle alongside them, and they will eventually Mega Evolve their Pokemon. Given that the leaks pre-dating the trailer included Mega Starmie and Mega Scrafty, it’s only logical to conclude that they will be thePokemon Mega Evolutionsused by Lida and Naveen.
Why Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s Mega Starmie and Mega Scrafty Make a Lot of Sense
Then again, the descriptions for Mega Starmie and Mega Scrafty state that the former is similar to regular Starmie, but its legs are much longer so that it can run, and the latter has a white hoodie that covers Scrafty’s head and arms, and also white pants, with the Pokemon’s tail being fully visible. Naveen wears a white jacket and designs clothes, so the description comes full circle based on the canon Mega Scrafty trainer in the game. Likewise, Starmie Mega Evolving into a critter with longer legs to match its trainer’s dance steps makes perfect sense. Although the actual models of the leaked Mega Evolutions are not out,Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s full list of Megasis bound to include both Starmie and Scrafty at this point.
