There are plenty of technical terms inUmamusume: Pretty Derby, and since players are constantly bombarded by text and numbers in this game, it’s quite easy to get lost or confused. Acceleration and Velocity are two commonly-used terms, and if you want your favorite Uma to win more races, you’ll need to understand how these work within the context of the game.
Whether you’re doing Team Trials or setting your character up for aURA Finals win inUmamusume, grasping Acceleration and Velocity is going to be important. In this guide, we’ll be exploring how these elements of physics work and how you can use them to bag more wins.
Umamusume: Acceleration and Velocity Definition
Before going into the details, we’ll first need to define how these concepts work.Velocityrefers to how quickly your character moves in one direction, whileAccelerationdefines how fast their Velocity increases. The game has a plethora of skillsand other effects that can affect either of these, and knowing which ones to focus will help improve your Uma’s performance throughout her career.
How Does Acceleration Work in Umamusume?
Apart from skills, your character’s Acceleration is affected by the following:
To make things simple, the higher your Uma’s Power, the sooner she’ll reach her top speed. Position strategies determine when your character will attempt to accelerate — Front Runners will often try to accelerate early on so they can gain the lead, while everyone else tends to accelerate later in the race (with End Chases being the most reliant on high Power/Acceleration rates).
Skills that increase Acceleration tend to be most valuable when your character is turning a corner or approaching the Last Spurt phase of the race. If your Uma can turn a corner fast enough, she can end up overtaking other runners. Meanwhile, if she can accelerate hard enough during the final leg of the race, she might just be able to steal victory from whoever’s up front.
What is Velocity in Umamusume?
Velocity is exactly what it sounds like: it refers tohow fast your Umamusume is running in one direction. It’s not exactly tied to any of the stats in the game, but if you want to achieve higher Velocities, you’ll want to train your Uma for Speed.
The Speed stat mainly affects what is called Target Speed, which is the speed value that your Uma is trying to reach. A higher Speed stat increases the max Target Speed your character can reach, ultimately making her run faster once she achieves that rate.
Should You Get Speed or Acceleration?
Simply enough, you’ll need both. Speed and Velocity alone won’t be enough towin you more races. You’ll need to train Power so your character can accelerate quickly enough, and Stamina so your Uma doesn’t tire herself out. How much of these stats you train will depend on race distance and terrain type:
~1000
~700
~400
~900
~650
~500
~800
~600
Getting high Speed and Power is crucial when it comes to Sprint/Mile. Your Uma won’t need as much Stamina in these races because of their short lengths, which means you can spend more turns training their maximum Velocity and Acceleration.
The opposite is true for Long races. You’ll still want a fairly high Speed stat, but you can sacrifice some Power in favor of Speed because your Uma will have all the time in the world to build their Velocity thanks to the race’s length. However, she will still need Power to break out of packs and steal the lead from anyone in front of them.
Mediumracesdemand a balanced set of stats. Your Uma will need healthy doses of all three stats so she can keep running at peak performance for longer.
When it comes to choosing skills, you shouldpick ones that complement your trainee’s race aptitude and their weakest stat. Acceleration skills are great for Sprint/Mile, and Stamina skills are excellent for Long races. If your Uma can reach her top speed in a short amount of time, increase her maximum Speed/ Velocity so she can secure victory.
