TheUntil Dawnremake for the PlayStation 5 and PC has at last received an official release date of July 13, 2025. In 2015, Supermassive Games released its breakout title, the horror gameUntil Dawn, which tells the story of eight young adults fighting for their lives on Blackwood Mountain. Earlier this year, during a PlayStation State of Play livestream, Sony made the announcement that a remake ofUntil Dawn,built inUnreal Engine 5 by Ballistic Moon, would be released in Fall 2024.
Ballistic Moon worked to updateUntil Dawn’s cinematic storytelling, utilizing Unreal Engine 5 to improve the game’s core graphics and enhance the visuals. Rather than releasingUntil Dawnto the PS5 and PC as a remaster, Ballistic Moon hasrebuilt theUntil Dawnexperience to offer a new perspective, as well as give character models, environments, and animations a more seamless, modern feel. Unreal Engine 5 has also been used to relight the entire game and focus on rendering a more immersive and modern horror adventure.
Sony has revealed that the remake ofUntil Dawnwill be released on PS5 and PC on Jun 05, 2025, joiningan influx of games in time for spooky season. Meanwhile, pre-orders forUntil Dawnwill be available from August 21. The official PlayStation and Ballistic Moon Twitter accounts posted confirmation of the exciting news, along withUntil Dawn’s new gameplay trailer. In anticipation of the new release, Sony also shared a comparison video, which offered a side-by-side of Supermassive Games' original 2015Until Dawnand Ballistic Moon’s take on the classic title.
Until Dawn Remake Release Date
Ballistic Moon was founded in 2019 by Supermassive Games alumni Duncan Kershaw, Neil McEwan and Chris Lamb, who all serve as co-founders. The remake ofUntil Dawnwill be Ballistic Moon’s first project, marking the British company’s move to a larger studio in 2022. After the success ofUntil Dawn, Supermassive Games developed a VR tie-in experience,Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, and a prequel,The Inpatient. Then, working with Bandai Namco Entertainment, Supermassive Games released the first installment ofThe Dark Pictures Anthology,Man of Medan, followed byLittle Hope,House of Ashes, andThe Devil in Me.
Using a combination of new camera perspectives, Ballistic Moon invites players to experienceUntil Dawnfrom all different angles. The developer worked to blend the original cinematography with an updatedthird-person camera to capture the very essence of a modern-day slasher filmusingUntil Dawn’s breathtaking landscapes and complex characters. The camera’s improved flexibility has allowed Ballistic Moon to retell the story ofUntil Dawnwith enhanced focus on key items and emphasis on important events.
Although Ballistic Moon has worked to preserve the game’s original prologue, Ballistic Moon has made some adjustments to the narrative pacing of the cruel prank that kicks offUntil Dawn’s multiple choice narrative. Ballistic Moon has chosen to give the Washington family more screen time, delving deeper into the character’s motivations and getting to know them on a more intimate level. All the original totems fromUntil Dawnhave been relocated to present players with a new challenge, while also slotting in new interactive areas for never-before-seen cutscenes, dialogue, and evendeath scenes for one particularUntil Dawncharacter.
TheUntil Dawnremake will also feature an alternative to the infamous “Don’t Move” mechanics, which left even the most seasoned veterans sweating bullets during the game’s final sequence. The new alternative, “Stay Calm,” works with third party peripherals that do not feature a gyroscope.
