Playersthat loved Dead Cellsare in for a real treat withWindblown. Players will have plenty of Weapons to change how they will engage enemies, Gifts that are passives capable of augmenting how players will play the game, and Boosts that will raise specific stats for the areas they want to shine the most.
However, there is another important element found amongthe best roguelite games, and that is purchasing upgrades between runs. There are many different categories for players to look through, and each of them will fill up with more options as players make their way through the game. Not all of these upgrades will instantly be available, so players willneed to progress far enoughinto the game before some of them appear. Despite that, there are some particular ones that players will want to pick up as soon as they can.
Which Upgrades to Get First
Once players die for the first time, they will find themselvescaptivated by the world settingof Ark — andspawning near Eperin. This is the NPC that players will be able to interact with in order to get new Upgrades. The first time they speak with him, they will have the option to spend the pink-colored currencyknown as Cogs. They will need to purchase upgrades before new ones become available. Here are some of the most noteworthy.
Health Flask
Players will bevery fast and dodgy, but not untouchable. Players will want to pick up Health Flask early, as it will let them recover up to 60% of their HP. This can save them from an otherwise run-ending hit against a tough opponent. Players will continue to be able to upgrade this flask further, up to Health Flask IV.
Backstabber
This will straight up raise the damage players will be able to deal when striking their opponents in the back by a percentage. This means it will scale throughout the runs for extra damage and just make players far more deadly.
Recycling
Players will be coming across plenty of gear they don’t need on runs, and this upgrade will let them turn those pieces of gear into shells. These shells can then be saved up and spent to get players the specific pieces of gear they do want, and can help round out the builds they are currently using for their active run.
Gift Slot
GIfts are Passives that make your character more powerful, and you have a limit of 3. However, Gift Slot will give an extra slot. Having this additional Gift Slot can let players create builds that perform in a whole other league compared to builds limited to just 3 Gift Slots.
Players will start each run with their Fish Knife, a melee focused weapon. The Starting Weapon Upgrade may give them something they may enjoy more, but it will still be a low-level weapon. The same can be said for Starting Trinket. These are not bad choices for players that want a strong start, but they will not be as useful as the above options.
FREND-43V3R Upgrades
Players will come across Encrypted Memories as they progress through the game, and these willunlock lootable Upgradesthat they can purchase using their other forms of currency. These will be purchased from the robot namedFREND-43V3R. This robot can be found to the northwest of the expedition starting canon. Players will be able to unlock manydifferent kinds of Weapons, Gifts, Trinkets, and more.
Abundance
This Gift will give players +20% additional Cogs, meaning they will be able to get more Upgrade faster. This is an all-around phenomenal Upgrade no matter one’s playstyle, and one player should get the moment it becomes available.
Frost Nova
This is a Trinket that can freeze enemies in an AoE. This can be phenomenal when enemies are all corralled together and allows players to just pour damage into their targets without them being able to fight back.
Blade Storm
This is a Trinket that creates an area of effect attack that can allow a player to keep prioritizing a single target, while dealing damage to all other nearby enemies at the same time.
Damage Scythe
This is a Gift that will cause a Scythe to spawn for 5 seconds and deal out 30 damage per second. This happens each time the player is able to cause 250 damage at any range. This makes it a Gift that can be used for any playstyle as it just helps raise damage numbers for players.
Trinket Scythe
This Gift has a similar effect as Damage Scythe, in that it spawns Scythes. However, it will only spawn this Scythe when players use a Trinket. This means it will not be as useful as Damage Scythe, but will be a great alternative to find during a run compared to other Gifts.
Hit Blast
This is a Gift that will create a blast that deals 40% of the initial damage of the weapon. Just like Damage Scythe, this is a great way to get more damage output in fights, and can help clear weaker enemies while the player puts their main focus on a single target. This Gift will have the player needing to factor in their positioning a lot more than Damage Scythe.
There are a massive number of gifts, and different players will have different playstyles they prefer. Players that really love the melee approach will want Proximity as this will increase all the damage for both their Weapons and their Trinkets while they are close to their targets. However, this will be a wasted choice for players that prefer to keep their distance. Players will want to pick up the gifts that they know will compliment their preferred playstyle. Tranquility, on the other hand, will give players +60% damage while no enemies are close to them. This makes Tranquility the ideal Gift for a player that prefers dealing damage at a distancewhile their allies garner all the aggro.
Double Alterattack
Alterattacks are something every player should get into the habit of pulling off as much as possible, as the damage output is just so much better. This Gift will cause a second Alterattack to trigger after the 1st one, but will only deal 50% of the damage.
