Many fans are now aware thatTom Hardy has confirmed thatVenom: The Last Danceis his final movie playing the character, butVenom 3director Kelly Marcel has come forward to assure fans that one of the film’s most interesting characters won’t be lost to time after the threequel. In an email exchange withIGNdiscussing the upcoming project, Marcel revealed how Knull made his way to the franchise, and reased more to come despite the end of theVenomtrilogy. “We were always aware of Knull, but knew that we needed to lay the foundation of the Venom character, and his relationship with Eddie, before introducing him. This is just the beginning for Knull,” Marcel said during the interview, going on to explain her reasoning down the line. “This film introduces Knull, but it just touches the beginnings of his story. Marvel’s greatest film villains are developed over time. Here, Knull is the threat lurking behind the danger that tests the absolute limits of Eddie and Venom’s partnership — but it’s their relationship that remains the heart of this story.”

Marcel made it pretty clear that Knull was seen as a big deal at the company, and plans for him going forward were extensive. “We’re in spoiler territory now and we hope some of the fun of watching this movie is not knowing what will happen, but trust me, we know full well how important Knull is to the fans, so just as we laid a foundation for Venom, we hope we are doing the same for Knull,” she explained. “The King in Black is way too powerful for ‘one and done.’” It was rumored thatSony would be saving this bigVenomvillain for a crossover eventwith the MCU, and it seems that Marcel is confirming something of that nature with her recent comments. With Sony still connected to the MCU in their collaboration on Tom Holland’sSpider-Manand the Home trilogy now completely behind him, all the rumors point to Knull heading over to make Peter Parker’s life hell in the near future.

An MCU jump would be amazing for Knull, and would all but ensure that he won’t be a one and done villain. While Marcel is optimistically looking beyond the October release of the threequel,Venom: The Last Dancestill has one major issue to resolveahead of its release, but with the prospect of more Knull down the line and a potential MCU crossover in view, things seem more likely to fall short of the R rating that so many viewers want for the finale. It’s still up in the air how things will go with the final film and Knull’s future on the big screen, but fans can certainly hope to see great things for both in the coming months.

Venom: The Last Danceis currently set for theatrical release on June 21, 2025.
