Wednesdayis chock-full of interesting characters that play off of each other. Wednesday herself, blunt and deadpan, is well-paired with a number of more emotional characters, including herPDA-loving parents, herbubbly roommate Enid, and even Thing, who, despite being a disembodied hand who cannot speak, has quite a lot of emotional depth and iscapable of his own plotlines.
Since the series is from Wednesday’s point of view, naturally, most of the majority of the focus is on her relationships, but there are some interesting side ones as well. Enid and Thing bond over self-care. Bianca and Xavier appear to be amicable exes by the end of Season 1. However, there’s one budding friendship that should be expanded on in Season 2.
When he is first introduced, Lucas Walker is a typical, privileged townie bully. His father is mayor and owner of Pilgrim World, a modern recreation of the original pilgrim settlement in Jericho. At the beginning of the series, like many other Jericho residents, Lucas isprejudiced against outcasts. He and his friends, Carter and Jonah, confronted Wednesday twice. She beat them easily on both occasions. Wednesday ignited Lucas’s ire further when she and Thing burnt down Joseph Crackstone’s statue. Lucas decided he needed to get back on Wednesday and decided to ask out a Nevermore as part of his plot, so he approached Enid with a deal. Enid could help Lucas make his ex jealous, and he could help make her crush, Ajax, jealous. Enid agreed, not knowing Lucas’s true intentions. However, once at the Rave’N, the two of them genuinely hit it off and their friendship should be explored in Season 2.
Bonding with Enid Was the Turning Point of Lucas’s Character
Lucas and Enid had a rough start to the Rave’N. Lucas didn’t know he should say “yeti” instead of “abominable snowman” and Enid accidentally spilled two drinks on him. However, once the initial awkwardness was settled, Lucas began to have a good time. As he read a text about how his friends were on their way to ruin the Rave’N, Enid cheerfully asked if he was checking the hockey playoffs. Lucas was impressed, even more so when Enid revealed that she had a thorough knowledge ofkung fu movies. Lucas left Enid on the dance floor, but only to meet up with Carter and Jonah and tell them he was having a change of heart. His protests weren’t enough and his friends connected a fire hose full of watered down red paint to the school’s fire system. Once they ignited the sprinklers, it appeared as ifblood was raining down alaCarrie. The dance immediately went into chaos with students falling over each other and slipping on the floor. The white and blue decorations and outfits were irrevocably ruined. However, worst of all, Enid’s trust in Lucas was destroyed. While this allowed Enid and Ajax to finally reconnect, it put an end to what could have been a very fun friendship based on mutual interests.
Lucas Has a Budding Romance with Another Nevermore Student
Although things were rocky at the start, it is still possible for Lucas and Enid to rekindle their friendship, but it will most likely be strictly platonic. Enid has a blossoming romance with an oblivious, nice gorgon, Ajax. Lucas himself began to get closer to Bianca. While doing community service to make up for his stunt at the Rave’N, Bianca notices that Lucas is wearing a bracelet indicating that he’s been roped into her mother’s self-help scam app, Morning Song. They flirt and confide in each other over at the Weathervane. As Bianca states, the two of them are alike and both are capable of change. The two of them are well-matched, and it will be interesting to see where their relationship goes. The two of them could also makegreat members for a potential case-solving team, should Wednesday Season 2 choose to move in that direction.
Lucas Was Redeemed When He Helped Wednesday Crack the Case
Lucas may have started out as an antagonistic character, but after bonding with two different Nevermore students, he begins to leave his prejudice about outcasts behind. Tragically, his father is killed in Season 1 just before revealing what he found at the Gates mansion to Sheriff Galpin. Lucas cries at his father’s funeral. While this could have set his character on a darker path, he instead decided to give Wednesday files he found on his father’s computer regarding Laurel Gates. These files were crucial in helping Wednesday in her investigation. Now Lucas is fully aligned with the outcasts of Nevermore, concluding his character arc, and redeeming him. It will be exciting to see how he contributes to thenext, darker mystery in Season 2as well ashis continued growth.
Lucas Walker is a compelling character with one of the clearest arcs of the first season. Enid is a fun, colorful character who can hit it off with just about anyone. Together, the two of them would make an entertaining pair. Even though Enid was upset with Lucas for ruining the Rave’N, she is capable of forgiveness, having made peace with Wednesday at the end of the first season. In a show where there’s a constant supernatural, it was refreshing to see two teenagers bond over something normal like sports and movies. Their friendship could add an element of realism to the show, where the teen characters get to enjoy their teen interests. Of course, Lucas and Enid should join Wednesday in her new,stalker-fueled endeavors, but they should get to have their own special friendship as well. After all, what could be moreWednesdaythan two characters who get each other for exactly who they are?
