Animal Crossing: Pocket Campbrought joy to plenty of mobile gamers upon launch in 2017. Unfortunately, after seven years of gaming, Nintendo has pulled the plug onAnimal Crossing: Pocket Camp. At least, the online version of the game.
While announcing the ending ofAnimal Crossing: Pocket Camp, Nintendo also reassured fans that an alternative to the game would be available to players shortly. Two months after the announcement, Nintendoconfirmed thatAnimal Crossing: Pocket Camp Completewould be taking the game’s place.
What Was Included in the Original Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp
The originalAnimal Crossing: Pocket Camptook a slight twist on other games in the franchise. Rather than designing an island to cater to villagers like inNew Horizons,Pocket Campsees players decorating a campsite. The gameplay for this mobileAnimal Crossinggame fits in line with that across the series, with players gathering fruit, fishing, and collecting insects. Characters likeIsabelle and the Able sistersalso appear in the game.
LikeNew Horizons, players can travel to other campsites. Players must first register these other players as friends before visiting. Currency inPocket Campis also the same, with Bells being used to upgrade campsites further. However, Leaf Tickets are an additional currency in-game that is less common than Bells. Leaf Tickets are used for specific items in-game and can also be purchased with real-world money, a mechanic that plenty of mobile games use.
Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Completeseems to emulate its original iteration almost exactly. Like the original mobile installment, seasonal events, decorating, harvesting fruit, and catching bugs and fish will all return to gameplay. However, a few small introductions and changes willarrive inPocket Camp Complete.
What Will Be Included in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete
Pocket Camp Complete’s Changes
Unlike its predecessor,Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Completewill not be free-to-play. The game will have a price tag of $9.99 starting on its release date of July 10, 2025. This price will jump on June 12, 2025, to $19.99. The game’s price isn’t the only economic change. Leaf Tickets are now called Leaf Tokens and can be purchased byexchanging Bells for the new currency. Leaf Tokens will serve the same purpose as Leaf Tickets did in-game.
Current players ofAnimal Crossing: Pocket Campwill want to spend any Leaf Ticketsthey’ve been squirreling away. Though Nintendo confirmed that current players can transfer their saved data and game progress to this new paid version ofPocket Camp, Leaf Tickets will not be part of this transfer. Players can participate in this data transfer through their Nintendo account and will be able to do so by July 15, 2025.
Pocket Camp Complete’s Additions
One of the drawbacks ofPocket Campwas its need for a consistent Internet connection. Fortunately,Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Completewill be available offline. This does present some concerns over visiting other players’ campsites, one of the best parts of gameplay. Thankfully, Nintendo is adding a new feature toPocket Camp Completethat will act as a solution to this issue.
Camper Cards will act as a bridge between islands inPocket Camp Complete. Nintendo describes the new feature as “customizable in-game cards that each player can create and trade through a QR Code, and that includes information like your personal favorite animal pal.” This QR code system seems similar to the one inPokemon GO. Collecting a friend’s Camper Card will add it to a new location called Whistle Pass. Gifts will occasionally spawn at the location and players can enjoyperformances from K.K. Slideron the mountain at 7 P.M.
Overall, this new version ofPocket Campseems to be fairly complete. Fans of the original version ofPocket Camphave until November 28to use their remaining Leaf Tickets and finish up their campsite. After that date, players can purchaseAnimal Crossing: Pocket Camp Completestarting December 2.
