Summary

No one will soon forget the feeling they got upon beating Arthur Morgan’s main storyline and seeing the rest of the game’s map open up for exploration. It came as one of the biggest reveals of the game that, despite creating a massive and intricate open world already, the devs at Rockstar had faithfully recreated almost the entire map from the originalRed Dead Redemptionjust to the west. And while this area was mostly empty of meaningful content post-game, it still sparked the fire in plenty of players who want to see John’s game fully retold with thesame loving detail Arthur Morgan’s story had.

The industry’s advanced a lot since the original game came out and there’s no denying that the title could do with an update. But despite the massive amount of fan demand for it, Rockstar has been completely silent on any news regarding a remake of its PS3-era classic. And while some fans may be ravenously waiting for moreRed Dead Redemptioncontent to play, there may be some virtue in waiting just a little bit longer for that remake.

Waiting to Remake the Original Game Will Result in a More Refined Graphical/Gameplay Experience

Considering theRed Deadseries’ massive popularity, it’s extremely likely the originalRed Dead Redemptiongets a remake at some point, but for Rockstar, it’s about waiting for the opportune moment. The original game was an instant classic and remains a masterpiece, but it’s been locked on PS3-era hardware since release. And though the story and characters remain as poignant as ever, it’s starting to show its age in the graphics and gameplay department.

Obviously, the goal is to get the game on the best hardware possible to give the story the next-gen treatment it deserves. Given thata third game in theRed Deadseries is almost inevitableat this point, it makes the most sense for Rockstar to delay remakingRed Dead Redemptionuntil it can complete its trilogy. That way, the studio can refine its graphics and gameplay to their purest possible point before going and implementing them in a full-blown remake of the first game.

The best-case scenario is being able to play through all three games seamlessly. A thirdRed Deadgame will set the standard for the entire trilogy, both in terms of graphics and gameplay. By releasing it, and then rereleasing the first, and maybe even the second, game players will be able to go through the entire series as if it was only made recently. A huge problem with revisiting old classics in a series is that the older games don’t hold up to the more refined later entries. TheBorderlandsseries is notorious for earlier entries not playing as wellas later releases. By revisiting the firstRed Dead Redemptionafter completing the trilogy, Rockstar can ensure the series feels cohesive and seamless in its final most perfect release format.

TheRed Dead Redemptionfranchise has taken the George Lucas approach to storytelling. The original game sits firmly at the end of the timeline, with the second game acting as a prequel to John’s story in the original. With the game’s timeline coming to a close at the very end of the Wild West era, it only makes sense that athirdRed Deadgame will be yet another prequel, perhaps focusing on the earliest days of the Van Der Linde gang.

If such a third game is on the way (and it almost certainly is), releasing it alongside a remake of the originalRed Dead Redemptionjust feels right. Players can experience the start of the gang in the third entry, replay the second game for Arthur’s POV of the heyday and fall of the group, and then wrap up the experience by revisitingJohn Marston’s story that both started and ended it all. And for one of the most beloved stories in gaming, there’s no denying that it would just feel right.
