Summary
BioWare’s latest installment in theDragon Agefranchise,Dragon Age: The Veilguard, has been a long time coming. Ten years after the release of its predecessor,Dragon Age: Inquisition,Dragon Age: The Veilguardhas finally arrived with a brand-new art style, an engaging combat system, companions and characters both familiar and new, and a continuation ofInquisition’s narrative. It’s certainly one of the most distinctiveDragon Agegames ever made from both a visual and gameplay standpoint, and it has had an impact in one way or another.
As is the case for many games these days, there might be questions about whetherDragon Age: The Veilguardwill be receiving DLC at some point to expand its story and world. However, BioWare recently laid those questions to rest with a disappointing answer, though it may still be a bittersweet confirmation for the developer’s fans, as it means big things foranother popular BioWare franchise.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s Post-Launch Approach Means Big Things for Mass Effect
There Are No Current Plans for Dragon Age: The Veilguard DLC
In the past,Dragon Agegames have generally received a great deal of post-launch content for players to enjoy — everything from small content packs featuring special armor and weapons to larger, story-based DLC. As such, it would be understandable for BioWare fans to expect the same post-launch support forDragon Age: The Veilguard. Unfortunately, in a recentinterview with Rolling Stone, BioWare’s creative director John Epler confirmed that the developer currently has no plans to release DLC forDragon Age: The Veilguard, so those expectations may be better off tempered for the time being.
At the same time, Epler only said that there are “currently no plans for downloadable expansions.” Taking Epler at his word, this doesn’t necessarily rule out the possibility ofDragon Age: The Veilguardeventually receiving an expansion of some sort, or, at the very least, some minor content updates. IfDragon Age: The Veilguardnever received post-launch content apart from patches, it would technically bethe firstDragon Agegameto do so, thereby making it the black sheep of its franchise. However, regardless of whetherDragon Age: The Veilguarddoes receive DLC at some point, BioWare’s current plans actually mean big things for another of its franchises, so fans of the developer’s work may still have something to benefit from the announcement.
BioWare Is Turning Its Attention to the Next Mass Effect
In the same interview with Rolling Stone, Epler confirmed that BioWare’s current plans forDragon Age: The Veilguard’s post-launch support are in order to allow the developer the opportunity to focus onthe nextMass Effectinstead. Ultimately, this is great news for fans of BioWare andMass Effect, as the first teaser for the game was released nearly four years ago, and very limited information has been disclosed about it since. With almost nothing substantial revealed about the nextMass Effectand nearly 8 years having passed since the release of the last game in the series,Mass Effect: Andromeda, news of BioWare now shifting its focus to the nextMass Effectgame is news long desired, and it presumably accelerates the game’s arrival as well.
…BioWare’s creative director John Epler confirmed that the developer currently has no plans to release DLC forDragon Age: The Veilguard…
While it would be nice to eventually receiveDLC forDragon Age: The Veilguard, it comes with a bit of good news attached, as it means the nextMass Effectis getting more attention. BioWare has confirmed that onceDragon Age: The Veilguardis all patched up,Mass Effectwill be getting its full attention, which means it could be arriving sooner rather than later. Even so, there is still potential forDragon Age: The Veilguardto receive minor content drops here and there, so it shouldn’t be ruled out entirely.
