Summary
Despite a handful of reported setbacks, insiders are claiming that development ofMarvel’s Wolverineis still going smoothly. Insomniac had already earned high praise among comic book fans forMarvel’s Spider-ManandSpider-Man: Miles Moralesby the time it announced a Wolverine video game set in the same universe during a PlayStation Showcase way back in 2021. From there, tiny morsels of information aboutMarvel’s Wolverinestarted to surface over the past couple of years, particularly thatSpec Ops: The Linewriter Walt D. Williams is on board to craft a darker, more mature story than Insomniac’s past Marvel offerings.
However, just as Logan’s life is fraught with turmoil and danger, the development ofMarvel’s Wolverinehas reportedly run into issues over the past year or so. Not the least of these was Insomniac’s massive data breach last winter, which resulted in a large amount ofWolverineinformation being leaked to the public. More recently, formerMarvel’s Wolverinedirector Brian Hortonannounced that he was leaving the project to work on Xbox’sPerfect Dark, just a few months after the game’s art director departed to pursue other projects.
This latest upheaval, combined with the overall lack of official updates since the game’s initial announcement, has led some to believe thatMarvel’s Wolverineis falling into a troubled development cycle. However, industry insider Jeff Grubb says that fans shouldn’t worry just yet. In the latest episode of “Jeff Grubb’s Game Mess” on YouTube, Grubb and fellow insider Mike Minotti noted thatWolverineis still fairly far in development, with Grubb believing that Insomniac’s track record with superhero games is a promising sign thatWolverinewill meet fan expectations when it does launch on the PlayStation 5.
Insider Says Marvel’s Wolverine Will Be Shown Soon
Grubb also stated that he thinks Sony will show off more ofMarvel’s Wolverinesoon, and this matches some previous rumors. Back in October, another insider claimed thatWolverinecould be shownat some point before the end of the year, with the most likely venue being The Game Awards 2024 on December 12. As for when fans might get to finally playMarvel’s Wolverine, sources believe that the game could launch as early as 2025, making it a possible competitor for Skydance’sMarvel 1943: Rise of Hydra.
There is still a lot up in the air aboutMarvel’s Wolverine, especially after last year’s major leaks and the recent departure of key figures like Brian Horton. Earlier this year,Insomniac assured concerned fansthat it would show more ofMarvel’s Wolverinewhen the time is right, and advised everyone to be patient for new developments surrounding Marvel’s favorite Canadian mutant berserker.
