Summary
It’s important to stockpile gold in every version ofWorld of Warcraftto buy training, gear, and other resources, but there are other currencies that players also need to collect.Season of Discoveryadded a few extra items that players can trade for valuable gear, along with keeping a few of the old ones from the Classicversion of the game.
Those who are familiar withClassic WoWare already familiar with the PvP Honor system and the rare drops that can be traded with specific NPCs for unique items. Players can also use certain items to improve their rep with certain factions to unlock dungeons, raids, and extra inventory items.
6Tarnished Undermine Real
A New Currency For Season Of Discovery
The description of Undermine Real mentions that this coin is going out of service, which is a possibility after Phase 4, so players should collect as many as they can until then. They drop from the bosses and mini-bossesof every high-level dungeon, so when you see a message in chat that says “LFG real runs” this is what they mean.
Only a few units ofTarnished Undermine Realdrop from each boss, so if a party or raid can get together and have a farming party, it’s possible to collect a few hundred. The vendor that accepts Real isPix Xizzix,a goblin found next to the Auctioneer in Booty Bay. She sells gear, trinkets, jewelry, and patterns, but most prices start at 50 Real and up.
5Scourgestones
A Classic From The Early Days
Before the gates of Ahn’Qiraj opened in southern Silithis, the endgame ofClassic WoWwas the Plaguelands, a vast region that took up two zones in the Eastern Kingdoms and contained the infamous dungeons of Scholomance and Stratholme, along with the floating ziggurat that makes up the Naxxramus raid. Access to these locations is connected to the player’s reputation with the Argent Dawn faction, and the best way to raise it is by collecting and turning inScourgestones.
Three different types of Scourgestones drop from enemies in the Plaguelands, depending on their level, with the lowest open-world mobs dropping Minion and Invaders stones, and elite bosses dropping the Corruptor’s Scourgestones. Trade these with the NPC with the blue checkmark to be awarded an Argent Dawn Valor Token, which the player can use to raise their reputation with the Argent Dawn faction.
A higher rep means that you’re able to buy more at the Argent Dawn vendor, and the choices include consumables, patterns, accessories, and other important dungeon and raid items. Getting to Exalted also means it’s easierto get into Naxxramus, which is expected to be added in Phase 6.
4Atal’ai Ritual Token
Trade For High-Level Gear
These tokens are among the few that players don’t have to stockpile. Sunken Temple is now a raid with a total of eight bosses, and each drops an Atal’ai Ritual Token, sometimes even more than one, since many of these fights are against multiple enemies. Even in a group of 20, the number of these token drops mean everyone has a good chance of getting one.
The vendor who accepts Atal’ai Tokens is Zalgo the Explorer, and he’s located within the instance, so redeeming these tokens might be the most difficult part of this process. He also only has a few items for specific classes, but they have some great stats for players still working toward raiding.
3Marks Of Honor
The Standard PvP Currency
There are a few variations on the Honor points that players collect when engaging in PvP activities, andWoW’sSeason of Discovery has many different options when it comes to these events. The Battlegrounds are still a popular way to earn Honor, with one featured every weekend that gives out extra points, for example. There’s also open-world PvP that awards Honor depending on the opponent’s level.
Players can trade inMarks of Honorin Arathi Basin, Warsong Gulch, or Alterac Valley to improve their ranking and reputation with each faction. A higher rep means a better selection from the Horde or Alliance Accessories vendor.
2Slaughter Coins
Blood For The Blood God
A new currency for a new event, the formerly-named Massacre Coins, are a reward for participating in the unique Blood Moon World PvP event. TheSlaughter Coinsin Phase 4 come in three varieties: bronze, silver, and gold, with the more valuable coins being traded for greater rewards.
The only vendor for these coins is located in the heart of the action, Gurubashi Arena, a famous PvP and dueling location in Stranglethorn Vale. He’s a troll named Mai’zin and some of the new epic Phase 4 rings can be found in his inventory, along with some other impressive weapons and other bits of gear.
Even when the event isn’t in progress, this part of Azeroth is notorious for PvP, so proceed with caution. If you visit during the event, be advised thatone of the fearsome Loais located here and has a wide aggro circle.
1Darkmoon Prize Tickets
For Fun, Prizes, And Rare Items And Gear
Another type of currency that’s been circulating in Azeroth since the early days,Darkmoon Faire Prize Ticketscan only be found and redeemed in one place, the Darkmoon Faire. This traveling carnival only visits once a month, and switches between appearing in Mulgore or Elwynn Forest.
There are a variety of ways to collect tickets for the Faire and raise your reputation with a faction, and most players start by doing the repeatable quests offered by the motley crew of carnies and carnival barkers working there. It’s possible to buy toys, food, and fun trinkets, as with any carnival, but most players are looking forthe Darkmoon Faire card decks, which can be used as powerful accessories or to start long, high-level quest chains.
