TheAge of Mythologyremake was originally announcedin October 2022. It is being co-developed by a swathe of studios, including World’s Edge, Tantalus Media, Forgotten Empires, Virtuos Games, and CaptureAge.
Age of Mythology: Retold Preloads Are Now Live
The upcoming remake has beenmade available for preloadon Tuesday, August 20. Both PC and Xbox Series X/S users are able to preloadAge of Mythology: Retoldvia the Microsoft/Xbox Store if they pre-ordered the RTS or have an Xbox Game Pass subscription. The pre-release version of the game is roughly 23GB in size. Preloads haven’t yet reached Steam as of this writing, but are expected to do so shortly.Age of Mythology: Retoldis scheduled to release on September 4.
Age of Mythology: Retold Early Access Starts August 28
Fans who purchase theAge of Mythology: RetoldPremium Edition will be able to play it a week early, starting on August 28.Xbox Game Pass memberswill be able to partake in this early access period by buying the $24.99 Premium Edition Upgrade even without owning the game itself. Apart from the ability to play the game early, the Premium Edition comes with the Freyr Norse mythology gods pack and a legacy deity portrait pack. It will also include access to two post-release DLCs, the first of which will be a remake of theTale of the Dragonexpansion for the 2015Age of Mythology: Extended Edition, whereas the second one will be a brand-new experience.
Age of Mythology: Retoldwill mark an important milestone for World’s Edge in that it will have a same-day release on both PC and the Xbox Series X/S. All of the studio’s prior games prioritized the former over the latter, as underlined by the fact that the Xbox console ports of titles likeAge of Empires 2: Definitive EditionandAge of Empires 4took years to arrive.
Age of Mythology: Retoldisn’t the only title that is scheduled to reach Xbox Game Pass next month. Monster and Monster’s sci-fi transportation sim is also on its way to the service on September 3, and will be followed by 11 Bit Studios' post-apocalyptic city builderFrostpunk 2on September 20. 4X strategy gameAra: History Untoldis then poised to expand Microsoft’s content catalog on the 24th. TheXbox Game Pass September 2024 lineupwas previously even meant to includeSTALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, but that much-anticipated title was recently pushed back to November 20.
